Our History

Under the leadership of Jennifer Ennis and Sally Breedlove, JourneyMates began in the fall of 2006. In 2007, Mary Vandel Young joined Jennifer and Sally. We modeled our Christian contemplative ministry after "Companions for the Journey," a spiritual direction community directed by Lisa Myers and Judy Durff in La Canada, California and the contemplative small group process taught by Shalem Institute in Washington, D.C.

Together, we are seeking to listen to God and respond to Him as He leads us in developing groups and resources for JourneyMates and as He provides opportunities to establish JourneyMates groups in other communities.

Our prayer is that God will grow other JourneyMates groups. If you are interested in forming a small group spiritual direction ministry and using the JourneyMates material, please feel free to contact us. We want to be faithful and responsible in passing on what we have received from Companions as well as what God has given us through JourneyMates. Most of all we want to be faithful to the Triune God, so that anything he has allowed us to create would be to the praise of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The art of listening and learning to be comfortable with silence has been a major area of growth for me. I am able to be more attentive to God’s presence in my own life and in others’ lives.
